"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
Southern Women Writers
Conference 2012

One morning during one of the first conferences Vicki speaks about below, she made sure to rise as early as possible to photograph the wildlife on campus and was blessed to capture this magnificent shot of two of God's creatures who'd ventured forth from misty shadows. The verse she chose to compliment this pastoral scene has been turned into a hymn--"As the Deer"--Vicki's all-time favorite.

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"

was one of two stories accepted this year for a reading and Vicki was given carte blanche to read the story of her choosing. Again, honored and humbled to continue to have her work chosen and to be a part of a conference that brings in scholars from all over the nation--those from the South who have moved to other areas, and those who are now living in the South--she decided to read "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." A fiction piece based on memoir, Vicki thought she'd try to end on a fun note-- "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is a rather humorous piece--since everyone was sad the conference was coming to an end, therefore, the title "Beginnings and Endings for the conference theme. Not total memoir, however, Vicki wanted to keep the Berry College pieces all together on her web site since this was the last time--2012--that the Southern Women Writers Conference would be held. Normally held every two years, 2011 was skipped and the last hoorah was organized for this year, to everyone's sorrow.

"No Tears In Heaven"
Southern Women Writers
Conference 2009

What an honor to be invited back to Berry College for the Eighth Southern Women Writers Conference:

"Southern Fishing"

was chosen to be read at the Southern Women Writers Conference in 2009. Again, Vicki enjoyed informative workshops and heard incredible speakers and poets read their work. She was thrilled to be back with friends and to meet so many talented writers.

"No Tears In Heaven"
Southern Women Writers
Conference 2007

What a joy to read at Berry College where she'd felt led a few years before:

"No Tears In Heaven"

was chosen to be read at the Southern Women Writers Conference in 2007. It seems God had led Vicki there for a reason that was to unfold during one of her darkest hours. She was honored to read her work at the same conference where Maya Angelou, Jill McCorkle, Kaye Gibbons, and other great writers were speaking.
